Quality & Sustainability
ISO 9001: 2008 Certification
Solyndra has earned ISO 9001:2008 certification, an internationally recognized standard issued to organizations with a quality management system. The certificate was authorized by TüvRheinland. ISO 9001:2008 provides a set of requirements that must be in place to have a quality management system, regardless of the organization’s size, product or service line, or public or private status. Certification to the standard is voluntary, and organizations must complete a rigorous auditing process by a third party registrar.
Quality Policy
Solyndra provides state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic systems and expert support that meet customers’ expectations for quality, delivery, technology and responsiveness. We are committed to continually improving the quality of our products and processes.
Solyndra products are certified to IEC61646/61730 requirements (Europe) and UL 1703 requirements (North America). All European shipped products have the CE Mark. In addition all products are California Energy Commission listed. For specific specifications see the individual product data sheets. Additionally documents describing compliance with hail, wind and seismic testing are available as are reports independently validating our energy yield models.
Sustainability
Protecting the environment and conserving natural resources are at the forefront of Solyndra’s mission and core values and we have a policy of continuous improvement with respect to the environmental aspects of our products and processes. Our products are designed to offer an environmentally responsible and sustainable alternative source of energy to fossil-fuel generation. Solyndra embraces the environmental philosophies of extended producer responsibility and product life cycle management. As a result, we take into account the environmental impact of our products from raw material sourcing through end-of-life recycling.
- Solyndra manufactures all of our crates to be 100% recyclable, and we recently triggered a free program where we come to any installation and recapture and re-use the crate materials for future deliveries.
- In Europe, Solyndra is a member of PV Cycle, an organization of photovoltaic panel manufacturers and other industry participants. The goal of PV Cycle is to implement an industry-wide voluntary take-back and recycling program for PV panels at end-of-life and take responsibility for PV panels throughout their entire value chain.
- Globally, Solyndra is committed to being responsible for the recycling of all panels delivered to regional processing centers in the markets we serve. We are in the process of developing a fully funded program to account for any expected future expenses for this commitment. By the end of 2010, Solyndra will have a program in place pursuant to which we will set aside funds at the time of sale to properly process and recycle our panels so that the recycled materials can be reused. This program will also cover any of our panels sold prior to the date that the program is implemented.
We are committed to creating a sustainable program that will provide for the proper recycling of our panels at end-of-life.
